It’s April 22, 2009. Do we know where and when the U2 conference will be?
No, we don’t have a time and place picked out yet. But yes, we have some interesting possibilities that could work out for this fall.
In response to our calls a few months ago for offers for a new host and site, we had several suggestions and many “thinking-out-loud” offers. It was great to hear so much interest in making the conference happen.
A few proposals have come in and we are in the middle of conversations that might result in the U2 conference happening this September or October. Or, maybe not. No promises at this point, OK?
But we are mindful of the time and know summer looms. We want to be especially sensitive to those who are on the program and we know it’s not practical to announce this summer that in a few short months we will have the conference. Look for a progress report in mid-May. If nothing seems to be working by then, it’s pretty safe to say that we will wait until the spring of 2010 to have the conference.
Thank you for your continued support and interest.
PS: If you know of a “point person” in a location you think the conference should be, tell them to contact us and get the ball rolling.

In the meantime . . . I’ve got my boots on for U2 360degree tour Oct. 6, Atlanta, GA. God bless in finding a time and a place. I teach at a school of just under 3000 in central KY, Campbellsville University. I would offer the school as a site for the conference, but . . . not nearly large enough.

Ummm, you guys DO REALIZE that ‘September’ and ‘October’ are the months that U2 will be TOURING in North America, right??
Perhaps NOT the best months for the conference, considering how many fans won’t be able to go if the conference dates interfere with a U2 show they have tickets to.
November would be better. Much better.

Thanks Jennifer. We heard rumors of U2 coming to the U.S. this fall.
We are interested in hearing how many fans would ALSO come to the U2 conference in September or October, OR come to just the conference b/c they aren’t able to get to a concert?
We know not everyone can do both and we know that our conference is not the same as a U2 concert. We’re not trying to compete against a concert (we’ll be much quieter and have a few less lights).

I would probably not go to the conference if it were in Sept./Oct. even though I had registered before because I have tickets to three shows. I would be very disappointed to miss it too since I was really looking forward to this event. I agree that Nov. or later would be much better.

I have tickets for the Giants Stadium show in September and definetely would not be able to do both the conference (I’m on the program as a paper presenter) and the show on the concert weekend…I personally would prefer spring 2010 at this point just because it affords more time to make arrangements for time off from work, etc. but that’s just me.
